Vienna, 1957

Classical jack of all trades life, trying to learn and do anything and everything: appearing and then playing small parts, saying one or two phrases at the Viennese Bavaria-Film Exhibition, reciting in the Kellertheatre (experimental theatres), sometimes posing for the students of the Accademy of Fine Arts in Vienna, things which I had already done in Salzburg working for the great Oskar Kokoschka at his famous Sommerakademie (Summer Academy).
Collecting news for some local or county newspapers and writing.
In actual fact I wrote from when I was about 13 or 14 years old.

At Vienna I had rented two machines, a Singer machine with a handle which today is a museum item, in order to alter the clothes bought at the second-hand clothes market and a typewriter. In a short time I produced three novels which were equally quickly refused. Then I found an editor who was willing to publish my fourth effort, even giving me a little advance payment with which I decided to get away from Vienna for three weeks, and together with a friend of mine go for a trip around Italy.

In any case, that book was never published.

In Italy I met the man who was going to become my husband. He made every effort so as I would not return to Vienna. We prepared the necessary documents at the Austrian Embassy in Milan. We married and we had a son.
